Modern Birthstones

The modern birthstone list was adopted in 1912 by the organization now called Jewellers of America. Tanzanite was added to the list in the 1990s. This is the list most people in the United States use to select birthstones.

Traditional Birthstones

The traditional birthstone list shows some stones that are not very common today but reflected societal traditions of the 15th to 19th century. It is still very similar to the modern list.

Mystical Birthstones

The mystical birthstone list is of Tibetan origin and dates back over a thousand years. This list is very different from the modern list.

Ayurvedic Birthstones

The Ayurvedic birthstone list is from Ayurvedic Indian medicine that has been used for over a thousand years.
